As the Anambra State governorship election approaches, the leadership of the Obidient Movement has distanced itself from reports suggesting it has endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term in office.
In an official statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Movement described the claims as “fraudulent, unauthorized, and grossly misleading.”
It reaffirmed that its only endorsed candidate for the forthcoming election remains Mr. George Moghalu, who had earlier received the public support of former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The statement read, “Any statements or representations suggesting otherwise are false and should be disregarded by the public. The Movement remains independent, guided solely by its mission to promote integrity, accountability, and people-centered leadership across Nigeria. Its support for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election was based on his proven track record and commitment to national transformation. Therefore, any individual or faction claiming to endorse other candidates does so in a personal capacity and not on behalf of the Obidient Movement.”
The Movement also issued a strong condemnation of what it described as the misuse of its name, logo, and identity for personal or political gain. It warned that any claim linking it with the endorsement of Governor Soludo or any other candidate outside its official stance amounts to a deliberate misrepresentation.
“The Obidient Movement does not participate in transactional politics or quid pro quo arrangements, and it firmly rejects any attempt to exploit its goodwill for selfish or partisan ends,” the statement added.
Reiterating its broader mission, the group emphasized that it remains focused on advocating for ethical, capable, and people-oriented leadership across the country. It also clarified that any future political positions, including those related to the 2027 presidential election, would be collectively decided and communicated exclusively through official channels.
The Movement called on the media, the general public, and political stakeholders to disregard any false narratives linking it to Governor Soludo’s reelection bid or to any candidate other than Mr. George Moghalu.
It concluded by reaffirming its commitment to a Nigeria where governance is driven by competence, character, and the collective good, promising to continue constructive engagement across all sectors while upholding its founding principles of independence, integrity, and transparency.
