The First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has expressed satisfaction with the steady recovery of a 10-year-old boy, Chiziterem, who was allegedly assaulted by his guardians, describing his improvement as a result of quality medical care and public support.
According to The Punch, Chiziterem is currently receiving treatment under the protection of the state government after a viral video showed him with severe burns and other injuries allegedly inflicted by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
During a follow-up visit to the hospital, Soludo received updates from the medical team and was informed that the boy’s condition had stabilised.
Speaking after assessing his condition, the First Lady commended the healthcare workers attending to the child and expressed delight over his progress.
“I paid another visit to young Chiziterem today to monitor his recovery and offer his family encouragement. I am delighted to see that he is making remarkable progress and is much stronger than when I last visited,” she said.
She attributed the boy’s recovery to the commitment of medical personnel and the support, prayers and goodwill shown by members of the public.
“His steady recovery is a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of love, support and prayers from kind-hearted individuals,” she added.
Soludo assured that the state government would continue to monitor the boy’s welfare and provide the necessary care until he fully recovers and reunites with his family.
She also urged residents to remain vigilant and report cases of child abuse and neglect, stressing that every child deserves protection and the opportunity to thrive.
“Every child deserves to be safe, protected and given the opportunity to thrive. Let’s continue to speak up against child abuse and neglect wherever we see it,” she said.
The First Lady encouraged residents to contact emergency lines 112 or 5111 to report any cases of abuse or emergencies within Anambra State.
