The University of Benin has announced a total ban on all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students.
The directive was contained in a circular signed by the university’s Registrar, Ademola Bobola, on Tuesday in Benin.
According to the circular, the management reached the decision during a meeting on Monday, reaffirming an earlier Senate resolution that prohibited such activities within the campus.
“The management declared that no sign-out celebration of any kind, including signing on T-shirts and playing of music, will be tolerated,” Bobola stated.
He warned that students who violate the rule risk severe disciplinary measures, including rustication, expulsion, or even withdrawal of their certificates.
The university also banned unauthorised gatherings, parades, and the use of vehicles for celebratory purposes during or after examinations.
Bobola added that photographers will not be allowed to set up photo stands or galleries for the purpose of such celebrations, while parents and guardians were advised to avoid visiting faculties and schools during the final days of exams.
He stressed that the management’s decision was to ensure order, discipline, and academic decorum across the university community.
