The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has shed light on his decision to align with President Tinubu rather than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he previously supported.
During an appearance on a podcast hosted by Nedu, Bwala pointed to the conduct and temperament of both political leaders and their close associates as a major factor in his choice.
According to him, Tinubu and his allies have shown greater tolerance and inclusiveness.
“I will tell you one thing that distinguished Asiwaju from Atiku,” Bwala said.
“When I left Asiwaju and joined PDP, all the people around Asiwaju throughout the campaign—as boisterous as the campaign was—we were in good relationship with them.”
He went on to commend key figures in Tinubu’s circle, including Seyi Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, James Faleke, and Babajide Benson, for maintaining cordial relations with him despite his defection to the opposition.
Bwala also noted that President Tinubu himself never displayed resentment.
In contrast, Bwala accused Atiku’s camp of responding with hostility after he exited the People’s Democratic Party.
“Everybody around Atiku started frowning and going to the media cursing me, and that’s a reflection of what either the leader promotes or doesn’t tolerate,” he stated.
Clarifying his political shift, Bwala insisted that he did not betray Atiku, but rather returned to his original political foundation after the elections.
Reflecting on his experience, the presidential adviser concluded: “If I come back to life on the evidence of these two, I would rather work with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.”
Bwala previously served as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 general elections before switching allegiance to President Tinubu.
