The Social Democratic Party in Ondo State has announced the removal of its State Secretary, Comrade Jimmy Akinyan, over what it described as “grave misconduct.”
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a press conference held in Akure by the party’s State Chairman, Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli, who stated that the decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting where Akinyan was found guilty of multiple infractions.
According to Akinbuli, the allegations against Akinyan included insubordination, financial impropriety, anti-party activities, and electoral sabotage.
He emphasized that the decision to remove him was reached unanimously.
“The decision was unanimous. Such behaviour violates the party’s values of loyalty, integrity, and discipline,” Akinbuli said.
He also disclosed that the party had constituted a five-member disciplinary committee, led by the State Legal Adviser, to conduct a formal review and determine whether Akinyan should retain his membership.
In response to the development, Akinyan dismissed the allegations and the announcement of his removal, describing the entire episode as politically motivated and without merit.
“The party in the state is fully prepared to wrestle power from the ruling APC in the coming election,” he said, urging party members to disregard the announcement and remain focused on their political objectives.
In the interim, the party has appointed Mr. Femi Ikoyi as Acting State Secretary pending the outcome of the disciplinary committee’s report. Akinbuli maintained that the move reflects the party’s commitment to internal discipline and its readiness to position itself as a credible alternative in the state’s political landscape.
