The All Progressives Congress has expressed confidence that the Accord Party will be unable to challenge its political machinery in the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the APC had assembled a formidable campaign team made up of influential political figures from across the country.
Drawing a comparison between the APC and its opponents, Yilwatda likened the contest to “a trailer facing a keke napep,” insisting that no political party in Osun, including Accord, the platform of Governor Ademola Adeleke, possesses the capacity to match the APC’s campaign strength.
According to him, the campaign council comprises governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers serving in the Federal Executive Council (FEC), deputy governors, former and serving lawmakers, as well as other stakeholders, including members of the business community.
«“It is like a trailer facing a keke. I do not know how the political party standing against us in Osun can withstand the strength of these people who are going there to mobilise and win the election in 2026,” he said.»
Yilwatda further explained that the party would deploy extensive human and material resources across the state to secure victory. He said governors from the South-West, South-South and South-East geopolitical zones would each coordinate campaign activities in one senatorial district, working alongside National Assembly members, state lawmakers and local government chairmen. He added that governors from the North would also mobilise their councillors, local government chairmen and legislators to strengthen the party’s grassroots campaign.
The APC national chairman also described the Osun governorship election as a crucial benchmark for the party’s readiness ahead of the 2027 general election. He said the poll would serve as a practical test of the political structure the APC is putting in place for the next nationwide electoral contest.
