Nigerian music star, Adekunle Gold, has added his voice to the growing online discourse around “nepo babies” by posting a throwback photo that quickly caught the attention of users on X (formerly Twitter).
The “nepo baby” term refers to individuals who benefit from family connections or wealth in advancing their careers, particularly in the entertainment industry.
On the other hand, “Lapo baby” is a new slang term making waves on Nigerian social media.
It typically describes individuals from less privileged backgrounds, often referencing those whose families may have relied on loans from LAPO Microfinance Bank, or who lacked inherited advantages.
Reacting to a user’s post that read, “Which one be Lapo baby again?”, Adekunle Gold responded with an old photo of himself in a humble environment.
The image subtly embraced the Lapo baby label, highlighting the singer’s rise from modest beginnings to stardom.
