The Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Churches, Paul Adefarasin, has spoken for the first time after a video of him in Lagos traffic caused a stir on social media.
In the viral clip, Pastor Adefarasin was seen pointing an object at a driver who had recognised him in traffic. Some online users claimed the object looked like a firearm, leading to heavy criticism.
However, in a statement released on Saturday, Pastor Adefarasin cleared the air, saying the object was not a firearm.
“You might be aware of a video which has been circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” he wrote.
“I want to assure you of this, that, that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
He described the reaction as a misunderstanding and thanked the public for their patience.
“We understand the concern that this accusation may have caused, and we will speak briefly to this mischief during the 9:00 am service tomorrow,” he added.
The pastor also said he was confident his followers were “winning and on top of the tests of life,” and signed off with appreciation.
The full details of what the object was or what exactly happened during the incident were not disclosed, but many await further explanation during the church’s Sunday service.
