The Borno State Police Command has arrested six suspects accused of stealing a mobile phone and withdrawing approximately N5.7 million from the owner’s bank account.
According to The Guardian, police operatives recovered the stolen phone and the entire N5.65 million allegedly taken from the victim.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed the development in a statement following an investigation ordered by Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 13 in Maiduguri when a resident identified as Abba K. boarded a commercial tricycle.
The victim later discovered that his Infinix Smart 8 mobile phone was missing from his pocket.

Following the complaint, detectives launched an investigation involving digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering.
“Through diligent investigation, digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering, the operatives successfully apprehended six suspects allegedly connected to the crime,” the police statement said.
Investigators alleged that the suspects stole the phone and subsequently gained unlawful access to the victim’s bank account.
The six reportedly admitted their involvement and disclosed how they shared the withdrawn funds.
Police confirmed that both the mobile device and N5.65 million had been recovered during the investigation.
The command said the suspects would face prosecution after investigators conclude their inquiries.
Daso urged residents to exercise caution when using commercial transportation, particularly when carrying mobile phones and other valuables.
He also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
The police maintained that the investigation demonstrated their commitment to tackling theft and financial crimes across Borno State.
