Three factory workers have been taken to court in Abuja for allegedly stealing soap worth N550,000.
The suspects — Sani Saleh (30), Margaret Goji (38), and Victoria Timothy (32) — all work at Amigu Plastic located in the Idu Industrial Area of the Federal Capital Territory.
They were brought before the Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The police charged them with criminal conspiracy and theft by servant.
The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, said the case was reported by Mr Zheng Jilong on April 5 at the Kado Police Station.
According to Nwachukwu, the theft was discovered on April 4 when the complainant’s wife checked the CCTV footage in the factory. She allegedly saw the three workers taking packs of Nico soap without permission.
“The soap they took was valued at N550,000. They did this without the knowledge or approval of their employer,” the prosecutor told the court.
She added that during the police investigation, the accused persons confessed to the crime and the stolen items were recovered.
Nwachukwu said the offences go against Sections 97 and 289 of the Penal Code, which deal with conspiracy and theft.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in the same amount.
He adjourned the case to May 29 for further hearing.
