The National Identity Management Commission has warned Nigerians against using unauthorised websites to modify their National Identification Number data.
The Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, gave this warning in a statement on Monday, urging citizens to only use the official NIMC self-service portal for any NIN modifications.
Adegoke stressed that using unapproved websites could put people’s personal information at risk, exposing them to identity theft and other forms of fraud.
“By using the self-service portal, individuals can also enjoy the convenience of updating their information from anywhere, at any time,” he said.
He added that the NIMC is committed to ensuring the security of citizens’ data and advised Nigerians to be cautious and avoid unofficial platforms when handling sensitive information.
“NIMC therefore advises Nigerians to use only the official portal for all NIN modification needs and to avoid unauthorised websites to prevent any potential risks,” Adegoke stated.
The commission’s self-service portal allows users to safely update their details, making the process simple and secure.
Nigerians are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious websites claiming to offer NIN modification services.
