The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a five-member gang suspected of robbing passengers in Port Harcourt using a ‘One Chance’ method.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.
She said police operatives acted on a distress call from a female victim, who reported that the gang stole her phone while she was inside their vehicle.
“On January 28, 2025, at about 9:00 am, the Surveillance Patrol Team attached to the Hyper City Unit of the Rivers State Police Command was on patrol along NLNG Road, Eastern Bypass, Port Harcourt, when they received a distress call from a female resident of Federal Housing Estate, Trans-Amadi. She reported that her phone had been stolen by the occupants of a green Volkswagen Vento saloon car with registration number ANAMBRA FGG 40 AA,” the statement read.
Police officers immediately responded, tracked the vehicle, and arrested the five suspects. The suspects are Ifeanyi Ugo (45 years), Paulina Ibe (45 years), Nneka Precious Sunday (30 years), Christopher Ibe (31 years), and Oyinyechi Ibe (48 years).
Iringe-Koko said the stolen vehicle and the suspects are in police custody while investigations continue.
She added that the police remain committed to fighting ‘One Chance’ crimes, where criminals pose as commercial drivers to rob unsuspecting passengers.
