A multiple-vehicle accident on Saturday morning, January 11, left 11 people injured along the Interchange section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi. He said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. and involved three vehicles: a Mazda bus, a Mack truck, and a Toyota Hiace bus.

“The crash occurred when the driver of the Mack truck was trying to manoeuvre into the premises of a private company. A Mazda bus, moving at excessive speed, collided with the truck, and a Toyota Hiace bus coming behind lost control and collided with the vehicles,” Akinbiyi explained.

He revealed that 21 people were involved in the accident, including 12 adult males and nine adult females. Out of these, 11 people—eight males and three females—sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The affected vehicles include a Mazda bus with registration number SMK 554 YH, a Mack truck with number FNN 934 XA, and a Toyota Hiace bus registered as KJA 995 XA.

Akinbiyi added, “The injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital in Shagamu by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).”

Eyewitnesses blamed the crash on impatience and speeding, with one stating, “The truck driver was carefully manoeuvring, but the Mazda bus, moving too fast, couldn’t avoid the collision. The Toyota bus driver lost control when he saw the accident.”

TRACE has urged drivers to exercise caution and maintain reasonable speeds to prevent such accidents.
