Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday inaugurated the new Chairman and members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission and commissioned several newly upgraded roads across the state.
The LASIEC team will be led by Bola Ighile as Chairman, with Samson Ajibade, Akin Oluwo, Dr. Olumide Metilelu, Abeeb Aileru, and Oladele Adekanye as members. During the swearing-in ceremony, Sanwo-Olu charged the executives to ensure credibility in local government elections.
The governor said, “As you assume this critical role, I urge you to prioritise transparency, fairness, and impartiality. The credibility of any electoral process is the cornerstone of its acceptance. Your actions must reflect the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”
Sanwo-Olu also encouraged Lagos residents to participate actively in the elections that the commission will oversee.
On the same day, the governor commissioned five upgraded roads in Lagos Mainland, Somolu, and Kosofe Local Government Areas. The rehabilitated roads include St. Finbarr’s College Road, Asani Street, Tijani Ashogbon Street, Jagunmolu Street, Shogbamu Street, and Diya Street.
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to maintain the roads, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across Lagos. He said, “We have kicked off this year on a note of project commissioning, and this is how we intend to carry on throughout the year.”
He further added, “No part of the state will be left out; we will continue to ensure that this development is equitably distributed.”
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the signing of the N3.36 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, assuring Lagosians that it paves the way for scaling up infrastructure development.
Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, also noted that the commissioned projects align with the state’s THEMES Plus agenda and represent a significant part of Lagos’s infrastructure master plan.
