‘Nigeria’s representative at the Miss Universe 2024, Chidinma Adetshina, shared a heartfelt message to her fans before she emerged as the first runner-up of the competition
In an emotional statement shared on her Instagram page on Saturday, ahead of her emergence, Chidinma reflected on the challenges she faced and the unwavering support she has received from Nigerians.
“Many wonder why I didn’t stop. Many asked, ‘Why not let it be for now? Your life might be at risk,’” she said. “But do you know what? My dreams have kept me afloat.”
Chidimma had earlier withdrawn from the Miss South Africa contest after her Nigerian heritage sparked a national controversy and a government investigation.
Following her withdrawal, the Miss Universe Nigeria organisation invited her to participate in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant competition, where she emerged as the winner to represent Nigeria
The beauty queen acknowledged the immense love and support she has received from her fellow Nigerians, calling it a lifeline during some of the most challenging moments of her journey.
“To my dearest Nigerians, with open arms, you carried me on wheels made of the purest love and intentions,” she shared. “I still cannot fully comprehend the reasons, but what matters most is that you’ve given me a second chance at life.”
Adetshina noted that despite the challenges faced, she remained steadfast in her commitment to representing Nigeria on the international stage.
She revealed that this moment is deeply personal for her and the millions of people she represents.
“As I step onto the Miss Universe stage tonight, I carry with me over 2 million beads of love, strength, and an unstoppable spirit,” she said. “In this very moment, history is being made through my story.”
Calling upon her ancestors for guidance, she vowed to give her best effort in the competition while relying on the prayers and support of her nation.
Chidimma was announced early Sunday morning as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition held in Mexico.
The final moments of the prestigious event saw an electrifying face-off between Nigeria and Denmark as the two women stood poised to claim the crown.
