The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that no life was lost in the tanker explosion that occurred early Wednesday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Ibafo axis.

According to Mrs. Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, the explosion happened at around 1:00 a.m. when a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit suffered a burst tyre, causing the driver to lose control. The tanker then fell, spilling fuel across the road before igniting into a fire.

“The fire service was contacted immediately, but before they arrived, the tanker had exploded. Five vehicles were burnt in the incident,” Okpe stated in a report on Thursday.

While no lives were lost, three men were injured in the explosion and have been taken to Real Divine Hospital in Ibafo and General Hospital in Sagamu for treatment.

The FRSC urged motorists to ensure their tyres are in good condition to avoid similar accidents. The Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, advised drivers to be safety conscious and check that their tyres are not worn out or expired, as this can lead to serious accidents.

“Motorists must be safety conscious and drive carefully,” he added.
