Tinubu not responsible for economic woes – David Umahi
Minister of Works, David Umahi, dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is responsible for the current economic hardships in Nigeria.
In a press briefing held in his hometown of Uburu in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi, Umahi attributed the challenges to various pre-existing factors, emphasizing the efforts made by the Tinubu-led government to address critical issues.
During the briefing on Sunday, Umahi pointed out that conflicts between farmers and herders, alongside other security issues inherited from previous administrations, have significantly impacted food production.
He noted that as the former Chairman of the National Economic Council committee on resolving farmers and herders conflicts, he successfully settled disputes in several states, particularly in the north.
However, the lingering effects of these conflicts have impeded food production as farmers face challenges in accessing their farms.
Umahi provided an example of positive change, stating, “The south-east geo-political zone is currently experiencing freedom from the constant conflict between farmers and herders, indicating that President Tinubu had resolved its primary issue.”
The minister commended President Tinubu for taking decisive action by instructing cement manufacturers to revert to previous pricing, thereby alleviating the impacts of economic hardships.
Umahi expressed confidence in the president’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people, urging manufacturers to comply with the directive.
“That is why we should not join the protests on economic hardship because if you remove the gunmen issue, the zone will be safe and farmers can work. The president is a compassionate leader who feels the sufferings of his people, and we expect the manufacturers to comply with the presidential directive,” he added.
