Hardship: Yobe govt approves N4.1b palliatives for workers
The Yobe State government has sanctioned a substantial palliative package amounting to N4.1 billion for both state workers and pensioners in response to the prevailing economic hardships resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.
This announcement was conveyed in a statement by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, the Chief Information Officer at the Office of the Acting Head of Service, Hamidu Alhaji.
The statement highlighted the governor’s commitment to alleviating the financial strain faced by civil servants and pensioners, stating, “In response to the current economic hardship arising from the fuel subsidy removal, the Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni recently approved the payment of N699,450,000 as palliatives for both civil servants and pensioners on the payroll of the state and local government on a monthly basis.”
As outlined in the approval, civil servants are set to receive N10,000 monthly, while pensioners will be granted N5,000 per month. This relief measure is slated to extend over a period of six months, commencing from last month (February), with the cumulative total reaching a significant sum of N4.1 billion.
Additionally, the statement revealed adjustments to the standing payment for gratuity, noting,that the monthly standing payment for gratuity was recently reviewed from N100 million to N200 million.
In a concerted effort to address the concerns of local government retirees, the government has also disbursed N708 million for the payment of gratuities.
According to the statement, the administration of Mai Mala Buni places a high premium on the welfare of its civil servants, which calls for support and cooperation to the Buni administration to enhance effective service delivery to improve the lives of the people of Yobe State.
