Shettima flags off N5.1bn palliatives distribution in Sokoto

Sokoto State residents are set to benefit from palliatives worth N5.1 billion, as Vice President Kashim Shettima officially flagged off the distribution exercise.

The palliatives, aimed at alleviating the economic burdens of the people, are in response to the fuel subsidy removal policy by the Federal Government.

The Federal Government has approved over N180 billion as palliatives for all 36 state governments, empowering them to procure grains and other essential agricultural inputs for their residents.

During the launch ceremony on Monday, Vice President Shettima reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.

He praised President Tinubu as a compassionate leader who constantly seeks ways to improve the living conditions of citizens, especially the vulnerable.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a compassionate leader who wakes up every day with a deep concern for the well-being of Nigerians, especially the vulnerable among us,” said the Vice President. “He is committed to promoting the welfare of citizens in this country, which is why he will soon introduce impactful programs that will improve living conditions.”

Shettima commended the Sokoto State government for its commendable initiative in distributing the palliatives, urging other state governments to follow suit.

He also expressed gratitude for the state government’s support to security agencies and the donation of operational vehicles.

Shettima stated, “The Federal Government highly appreciates the support of the state government to security agencies operating in the state. The vehicles you have purchased for them will greatly contribute to maintaining peace and order in Sokoto, as development cannot thrive without peace.”

In addition to the palliatives distribution, Vice President Shettima inaugurated the Rijiyar Doruwa flyover, a project constructed by the state government at a cost of N5.3 billion.

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, speaking at the event, emphasized that the palliatives aim to address the needs of the people, particularly the poor.

Prominent attendees at the event included former Sokoto Governor Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, and Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation Bello Goronyo.
