Bandits kidnap Zamfara varsity lecturer
Bandits have reportedly abducted, the Director of the Centre for Research at the Federal University Gusau, Bello Janbako, Zamfara State, and a senior lecturer in the university’s Department of Islamic Studies.
According to reports the abduction took place at his residence in Damba, Gusau, the state capital, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The bandits forcefully entered Janbako’s residence at approximately 2:00 am, firing several gunshots to create panic among the residents.
A resident of the area, Nasamu Garba, recounted the events to the PUNCH stating, “There was a serious fight between the bandits and the security personnel. Unfortunately, the bandits overpowered the security personnel due to their numbers and ran back to the forest with Bello Janbako.”
This kidnapping follows a pattern of rising insecurity in Zamfara State, with residents living in fear of bandit attacks.
The spokesperson of the state police command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, could not be reached for comment at this time of the report.
