Diddy, Cassie Ventura settle sex trafficking lawsuit
Rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and R&B singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura have reached an amicable resolution to the lawsuit in which Ventura accused Combs of rape and sex trafficking. The details of the settlement remain undisclosed.
According to BBC, both parties expressed their desire to move forward amicably in a joint statement. Ventura said that she “decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control.
“I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.”
In his statement Diddy wished Ventura and her family the best. “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”
The lawsuit, filed by Ventura on Thursday, alleged that she was subjected to a decade of abuse and violence by Combs, her former boyfriend.
Combs vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them “offensive and outrageous” and accusing Ventura of attempted extortion.
Ventura’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, commended her courage in coming forward with her story, emphasizing the importance of giving voice to victims of abuse.
“I am very proud of Ms Ventura for having the strength to go public with her lawsuit. She ought to be commended for doing so.”
Ms Ventura alleged that the rap producer raped and beat her over 10 years starting when she was 19 and he was 37.
“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story,” Wigdor said.
Ventura’s allegations detailed a pattern of physical and emotional abuse that began when she was 19 and Combs was 37. She claimed that Combs’ wealth and influence enabled him to control her life, exploiting her vulnerabilities and subjecting her to a cycle of violence and addiction.
Combs’ lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, countered the accusations, stating that Ventura had demanded a hefty sum of money in exchange for her silence and threatened to write a damaging book about their relationship. He characterized Ventura’s actions as “blatant blackmail.”
Ventura’s lawyer disputed Brafman’s claims, asserting that Combs had offered her a substantial payment to silence her but that she refused, opting to pursue legal action to empower other victims.
Ventura achieved notable success in the music industry during the 2000s, collaborating with Combs on several hit songs, including “Me & U,” “Long Way to Go,” and “Official Girl” featuring Lil Wayne.
