Court issues warrant against Naira Marley for internet fraud
Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, faces an ongoing legal battle as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecutes him on 11-count charges related to conspiracy and credit card fraud.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, issued a production warrant against Naira Marley to ensure his presence at the trial.
At the recent court session, Naira Marley’s defense counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, informed the court of his client’s absence, explaining that the singer was detained by the police for questioning regarding the murder of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Mr. Ojo requested an adjournment of the trial, which was granted by the judge.
In response, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, urged the court to issue a production warrant to secure Naira Marley’s presence at the next scheduled court date.
Justice Oweibo granted this request and adjourned the trial until October 30, 2023.
Additionally, the Lagos State police have announced evidence suggesting Naira Marley’s involvement in bullying and assaulting Mohbad before his death, potentially implicating the singer in the alleged murder case.
