TRAGEDY: Imam, two others die as flood ravages Gombe
A heavy rainfall has claimed the life of the Imam of Al-Burhan Masjid in Gombe, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, shortly after he led Muslims faithful for a Taraweeh prayer at the mosque.
The unfortunate incident happened on Monday, DailyTrust reports.
The deceased fondly called Malam Bello died while trying to save his sister-in-law’s car from being submerged in the flood.
His corpse was found underneath a bridge at Kumbiya-Kumbiya area, after three hours of searching.
The downpour, which lasted for over two hours, also claimed the lives of two other people, injured many and destroyed over 20 houses.
The Head of Rescue and Rehabilitation of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, Malam Muhammad Garba, confirmed the incident.
He said apart from residential buildings, households items and properties, several livestock were also consumed by the flood disaster.
Garba said the agency was still assessing the level of damages to ascertain the number of death, households items affected and properties destroyed by the flood.
