Students of the University of Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday, blocked roads leading to the campus in protest of a recent hike in school fees.
The students, who were mobilized by leaders of the Students Union Government, called for an urgent reversal of the hike, which they said was unfair and would make it difficult for many students to continue their education.
The protesters, who carried placards with inscriptions such as “If your children can afford the money, we can’t” and “We don’t want to drop out of school,” said the hike was insensitive to the plight of students and their families, who are already struggling to make ends meet.
They also accused the university management of failing to provide adequate facilities and services, despite the high fees that students pay.
The university management has not yet commented on the protest.
