YPP suspends Imo Chairman over abuse of office
The Young Progressives Party has taken action in Imo State, suspending its chairman, Mr. Victor Diala, due to allegations of serious wrongdoing and misuse of his position.
The party’s National Working Committee has appointed Hon. Kingsley Nwahiri to step in and fulfill the chairman’s responsibilities temporarily, pending the results of a special investigation by the party.
In addition, the YPP has made important decisions regarding its leadership in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Chief Bernard Uzoeto has been reinstated as the local government chairman, and Mr. Egbeola Wale-Martins, the National Publicity Secretary, shared these developments from Abuja on Sunday.
The suspension of Mr. Victor Diala was a result of actions taken by the NWC on Saturday, September 9, following thorough discussions.
Mr. Wale-Martins stated, “Sequel to the NWC’s actions of Saturday, September 9, and consequent upon extended deliberations, the NWC approved the immediate suspension of the Imo chairman of the YPP, Mr. Victor Diala.”
“This is based on the provisions of the YPP’s Constitution on gross misconduct and abuse of office.”
“Pending the conclusion of the report of the committee set up to investigate the allegations, Hon. Kingsley Nwahiri has been mandated to take over from the suspended chairman in the interim.”
“This is due to the noticeable and unfortunate ailment of the Deputy Chairman, Mr. Louise Ugochukwu, to fully discharge the responsibilities associated with this office at this time.”
Furthermore, the NWC has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Chief Bernard Uzoeto as the Orsu Local Government YPP Chairman, as his earlier suspension violated the party’s constitution.
In addition to these internal matters, Wale-Martins also expressed the NWC’s appreciation for the judgments that upheld the electoral victories of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (YPP-Anambra South) and other party members in election petitions courts.
