Ifeanyi Ubah: NECO writes YPP, says senator passed seven subjects
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has confirmed that embattled lawmaker representing Anambra south senatorial district, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah passed seven out of the eight subjects he wrote in 2003.
NECO’s Head of Department of Legal and Board Affairs, Comfort Kolo, stated this in a letter she addressed to the National Secretary of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Vidiyeno Bamaiyi.
Recall that the billionaire politician is battling to save his seat at the Red Chamber following his sack by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court in Kubwa, Abuja on the grounds that he allegedly presented a forged NECO certificate to INEC to enable him contest the Anambra South senatorial district election in 2019.
The court had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Ubah and to issue a fresh certificate to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obinna Uzoh – who came second in the election, as the senator-elect of the district.
However, in a letter with reference number NECO/R/LGS /V. 20/006, and dated January 23, 2020, obtained by The Punch in Abuja on Monday, NECO explained that Ubah was issued a statement of result in June 2003 containing the subjects he passed and the grades.
The examination body explained that the letter was in response to a request by the YPP, seeking details of the result of Ubah, who is a leader of the party.
The result includes, English Language (C6), Mathematics (C6), Government (C6), Economics (C5), Literature in English (C5), Commerce (C5) and Christian Religious Studies (C6).
The examination body said Biology was not included in the statement of result because Ubah scored F9 in it.
The execution of the judgment sacking Ubah from the Senate has, however, been stalled by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, January 23.
The court made its latest decision known to INEC and the clerks of both the National Assembly (NASS) and the Senate.
Following an interim order granted by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, the court asked the Senate and the NASS not to execute the verdict it earlier delivered on the case involving Ubah, pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice filed by him.
