Resident doctors call off strike after nine weeks
The National Association of Resident Doctors has suspended its nationwide strike after nine weeks.
WuzupNigeria recalls that the indefinite strike began on August 2 over grievances that include the delayed payment of salaries and allowances.
However, after an emergency meeting on Sunday evening, the President of the association, Dr Godiya Ishaya confirmed the suspension of the industrial action on Monday.
Doctors are to return to their duty posts from 8am, Wednesday, according to the communique signed by the Nigerian Medical Association, Secretary-General Ekpe Philips Uche.
”We’ve officially suspended the strike to resume at 8:00 am on Wednesday. We made the decision in the wee hours of today.
“We held an emergency meeting from 5:30 pm on Sunday to the morning hours of today, and the NEC decided that having reviewed the progress made so far, the strike should be suspended,” Vanguard quoted Ishaya as saying.
