I WAS A BUS CONDUCTOR FOR ALMOST A DECADE! Small Doctor reveals
Nigerian music star, Temitope Adekunle, popularly known as Small Doctor, has revealed that he was a bus conductor for almost a decade in Lagos.
The “penalty” crooner shared the story of his days as a bus conductor and an upcoming artiste in an interview on Rubbin Minds, a Channels TV show.
In a tell it all with the host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the music star talked about his days of hustling on the street. He also talked about being an Okada rider and how he shuffled school in the process.
Small Doctor also revealed that he did not finish his tertiary education because of limited funds. He said studying in the University of Lagos is challenging and demanding and he was too distracted with his hustle.
The music star, however, said he has plans to go back to school to complete his studies.
He further revealed that the idea of his song, “penalty” was giving to him by his mother who he fondly called “Iya teacher.”
The father of two said that the hit song has taken him to fifteen countries and opened doors for him that he never dreamed of.
Small Doctor also admitted to using a part of legendary Juju musician, King Sunny Ade’s song without his permission. However, he said he has pleaded with him.
He said,
“I had recorded my first single.
“I had been gaining airplay in my hood back then. Agege, Ogba, all those places.
“But person no fit just stand dey believe say dem go dey call you for show.
“Those times sef, if you’re opportune to be on the stage you go beg with the fact that they’ve been playing the song all the while. So I just needed to have some other things to just keep the ball going.”
Small Doctor explained that regardless of his early successes in his neighbourhood, he had to make a living, detailing his regular bus routes in Lagos.
“I was a conductor for years, almost a decade,” he said.
“From Agege to Ikeja, Ikeja to Maryland, Maryland to Yaba.
“I shuttled that place for like three to four years. I moved to Oshodi to Mushin under the bridge. So it was from Oshodi to Mushin, Mushin to Oshodi I spent like six to seven years.”
When asked about the current state of his former bus driver, the singer replied by saying, “I have done the needful…”
