The 2026 edition of Felabration has continued to draw music lovers to the New Afrika Shrine and Freedom Park in Lagos, with a blend of established performers and emerging talents paying tribute to Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The week-long festival, which celebrates Fela’s enduring contributions to music, African culture and social commentary, has featured a series of live performances alongside activities highlighting creativity, identity and artistic expression.
Among the artistes scheduled to perform on Saturday, October 17, are galala music exponent Daddy Showkey, rising singer Muyeez and entertainer DJ Chicken, who are expected to keep audiences entertained with their distinctive sounds.
The previous day’s programme, held on Friday, October 16, featured Small Doctor, Goya Menor and other performers who took turns on stage to engage the festival crowd.
A major attraction at the New Afrika Shrine has been the regular appearance of Femi Kuti and his band, Positive Force. The musician has continued to captivate spectators with his energetic stagecraft and signature saxophone performances, adding to the atmosphere at the iconic Lagos venue.
The festival’s musical offerings also featured opening performances by Akin Ajayi, Ayorhskyfire, Femi G and Adeola Tenor, who entertained attendees at the New Afrika Shrine.
Their appearances underscored the festival’s role in providing a platform for musicians across different generations to display their talents while contributing to the celebration of Fela’s artistic and cultural influence.
The programme also included activities by the Kings and Queens Art Academy, organised with the support of Yeni Kuti, alongside other musical performances that enriched the festival’s schedule.
According to the organisers, Yeni and Femi Kuti, Felabration goes beyond a conventional music festival, serving as a gathering dedicated to celebrating the life, works and enduring influence of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The organisers described the event as a platform where Afrobeat rhythms, African cultural expression and artistic freedom converge, encouraging participants to embrace creativity and self-expression.
This year’s edition, themed ‘Who Are You’, centres on self-awareness, identity and reconnecting with one’s roots. The theme also encourages originality and creative expression, reflecting Fela’s enduring emphasis on individuality and cultural consciousness.
Beyond its concerts, the festival’s programme featured a secondary school debate, a symposium and a fashion showcase by Nigerian designer Lanre Da-Silva, among other activities designed to broaden its cultural and intellectual appeal.
Scheduled to conclude on Sunday, October 18, Felabration 2026 continues to bring together music, fashion, education and cultural discourse in honour of one of Africa’s most influential musical figures.
