A Grade I Area Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a 43-year-old man, Suleiman Adamu, to nine months imprisonment for defrauding his business partner of N750,000.
Adamu, who was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating, pleaded guilty and asked the court to temper justice with mercy.
In his ruling, Judge Malam Sulyman Ola gave the convict an option to pay N40,000 as fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.
Sulyman also ordered the convict to pay the complainant, Mr Sadiq Rabiu, N750, 000 in compensation.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Mayowa Adefioye, told the Rabiu, reported the case at the Kubwa Police station on February 15, at 4:00pm.
Adefioye informed the court that, sometime in April 2020, the complainant in a written agreement, entrusted five Bajaj Motorcycles worth N750, 000 to the convict for a business deal.
The prosecution counsel said that the agreement stated that the convict will remit money realised from the business into the complainant’s account.
He further added that the convict acted in a fraudulent and dishonest manner when he sold off all the motorcycles and converted the money for his personal use.
Adefioye said during police investigation, Adamu admitted to have committed the crime, adding that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.
