Stop using children as hawkers, Kwara school proprietor urges parents
An educationist, Mr Samuel Olabode, has advised parents to desist from sending their children to hawk when they should be in school.
According to the proprietor of Champions Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, children deserves right to good education.
Olabode, who gave the advice on Friday, said children’s education should be paramount to parents and guardians.
According to him, this action shows that many of the parents are selfish.
“It is very wrong to send your children to the street when they are expected to be in the classroom.
“Parents that are doing this are trading the future of their children for their own selfish gain.
“It is a pity that this idea is becoming a norm among parents in the country.
“Stop denying your children their right to education. Support them and see them excel in their chosen career paths.
“Government must enforce laws to save children from street hawking. There is the need for strict action to curb this act in our society,” Olabode said.
The educationist called on the government at all levels to ban children hawking on the street.
He also called on the public, NGOs, and religious leaders to invest in children and take children off the street.
