Jigawa confiscates 14 sacks of adulterated sesame
The Jigawa State Consumer Protection Committee has seized 14 sacks of adulterated sesame seeds in Taura Local Government Area of the state.
The committee Chairman in the state, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.
Abdallah said the traders were caught when the committee paid an unscheduled visit to Gujungu market in Taura town, on Wednesday.
The chairman alleged that the suspects mixed the commodity with sharp sand in order to increase weight, with the aim of defrauding customers.
According to him, the suspects who have confessed to committing the offence, have been charged to court.
Abdallah further warned traders in the market and others against engaging in such unwholesome practice, stressing that anyone found defrauding consumers would be prosecuted.
The chairman assured the people that the committee would continue to monitor markets to protect consumers from adulterated foods, drugs and medication, as well as from traders bent on cheating customers.
