Prince Philip’s Funeral: Harry in, Meghan out
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Marklke would not be attending the funeral of her husband’s grandfather, Duke of Edinburgh, who died on Friday.
The Royal family announced that the Duke, husband to Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 99 just two months short of his 100th birthday and would be mourned for eight days across the United Kingdom.
While exiled grandson, Duke of Sussex – Prince Harry, would be attending the funeral which will take place next week in a stripped-back ceremony due to coronavirus restrictions, his wife, Meghan, would not be attending.
Duchess Meghan, who is heavily pregnant with the couple’s second child, a daughter, is unable to accompany the prince.
A source close to the couple tells BAZAAR, “The Duchess has made every effort to travel alongside The Duke, but unfortunately, she did not receive medical clearance from her physician.”
Royal officials said his funeral, which will be televised, will take place at 1400 GMT on Saturday, April 17 in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, west of London. It will be preceded by a national minute’s silence.
Government guidelines restrict mourners to just 30 people and close attention has been paid to the pared-down guest list for the funeral.
Palace officials confirmed he would but his American wife, Meghan, who is pregnant with their second child, had been advised against travelling from the United States on medical grounds.
Recall that the couple, who quit frontline royal duties last year, have launched a series of broadsides against the royals, including accusing them of racism, and of failing to treat Meghan’s mental health.
However, both Harry and Meghan paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh on the day of his death, April 10, with a message on the website of their charitable foundation Archewell.
“Thank you for your service,” the touching note read. “You will be missed.”
