From Rio to Togo, it’s the year of condoms
The year 2016 is fast becoming the year of condoms with Togo announcing the distribution of millions of the items.
Over ten million male and female condoms will be distributed between now and the end of June in ten Togolese towns, including the capital Lome, a media report said on Thursday.
It said that the distribution campaign was launched in Lome by the National Anti-AIDS Committee.

“The condoms will be distributed in a targeted manner during the campaign that aims to reinforce communication so that people can change their behaviour in favour of utilisation of condoms during sexual intercourse,’’ it noted.
This comes less than a week after the International Olympic Committee for the fast approaching Rio 2016 Olympics will distribute about 450,000 condoms during the games. That’s three times more than the amount distributed at the London Games four years ago.
And the objective is the same, encouraging good and safe sex.
The coordinator for the National Anti-AIDS Committee’s secretariat, Vincent Pitche, said the national campaign would target youths and urban population.
“We want to encourage the targeted population to change their behaviour and promote use of condoms because this has two benefits,” the Coordinator for the Togo National Anti-AIDS Committee’s secretariat, Vincent Pitche, said.
“It will help to prevent unwanted pregnancies and contamination of HIV/AIDS. “Our objective is to have an AIDS-free generation by the year 2020,’’ Pitche said.
