NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN! Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, declares intention to run for governor of Enugu
Nollywood veteran actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has officially declared his intention to run for Governor of Enugu State at the 2019 election.
The 49-year-old actor also revealed that he will be contesting on the platform of the All People’s Congress.
In a three-part post on Monday on his Instagram page, Okonkwo shared highlights from the event which had in attendance the ex-governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime.
He said he was elated by the presence of the former governor adding that Chime, has endorsed him.
“I just declared my intention to contest for the Governorship candidate of APC in Enugu State. It was heartwarming to receive the blessings of the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, His
Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory,” he wrote.
Speaking on his political drive and what propelled his gubernatorial ambition, the award-winning actor said it is time that the film industry produce a worthy political executive.
“It’s time for Nollywood to produce an Executive to fulfil our Nollywood dreams.
“The entire APC structure attended the declaration. God is awesome,” he added.
Okonkwo joins the league of Nollywood celebrities to get into politics.
His colleague Desmond Elliot, is currently a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The son of veteran actor, Pete Edochie, also contested for and lost the gubernatorial seat in Anambra State.
Yul Edochie contested under the Democratic People’s Congress.
