West Bromwich Albion held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night in the Premier League.
The Baggies who lie 19th on the PL table went into the game with coach Slaven Bilić’s job reportedly on the line following a poor run since their promotion to the top tier.
Bilić’s men came into the match with just one win, four draws and eight loses in 13 Premier League matches so far, desperately needing a win against a City side who were held to a goalless draw against rivals, Manchester United over the weekend.
Pep Guardiola’s men went ahead unavoidably in the on the 30th minutes after Raheem Sterling found Ilkay Gundogan unmarked in the box as the German scored with a clinical strike.
It appeared as though Guardiola’s men were going in the right direction in the bid to return to the top of the summit and most importantly, keep their title race alive.
The reverse however was the case in the 43rd minute when Semi Ajayi’s strike deflected in off Ruben Dias to give the away team a life line.
The game became a battle between City’s attack and West Brom’s defense but the latter had the final say as Sam Johnstone’s heroics kept out clear chances from Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick and stoppage-time headers from Gundogan and Raheem Sterling.
The draw ends City’s run of eight consecutive PL home wins against promoted sides since a goalless draw against Huddersfield in May 2008.
West Brom ended a 13-game losing streak to City in the Premier League, picking up their first point against them since playin 0-0 in December 2011
