COVID-19: Nigeria records over 70,000 infections with 550 new cases

Nigeria’s coronavirus cases have surged to over 70,000 COVID-19 cases after the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, confirmed 550 new infections.

The NCDC reports that since the country discovered its first case on 27th of February 2020, the death toll has risen to a total of 1,182.

All 550 new cases were recorded in 16 states with at least 219 infections recorded in Lagos State, according to the NCDC.

While the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded 116 cases, Kaduna recorded 52 cases, 19 were spotted in Kwara, while Kano and Rivers recorded 15 cases each.

Plateau and Osun recorded 7 each; Anambra and Oyo, 5 each; Jigawa and Ogun, 4 each; Bauchi 2; Edo, 1; and the FCT, 168.

As at the time of this report, the NCDC has confirmed a total of 70,195 cases, 65,110 discharged patiemts, and 1,182 deaths recorded in 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
