A 130-year-old Ghananian grandmother identified as Obaapanin Mary has died days after she fell while trying to retrieve GH¢34 (N2,237) that was owed her by another woman.
According to Crime Check Foundation and Facts and Truths, Obaapanin’s only son died a few years ago, at 75 years and since then, unfortunately, it had been difficult for the aged woman to cater for herself.
Kate, a distant relative to the late century-old woman who lives at North-Suntreso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, recounted the heartbreaking incident in an interview.
Before Obaapanin’s sad demise, she was receiving some financial assistance from a charity organisation called the Crime Check Foundation.
In an interview conducted before her untimely death, the old lady mentioned that she was unable to work and relied on the benevolence of her neighbours’ for food.
She also stated returning to her hometown was impossible and out of the question because there was nobody to take care of her.
