Ghana beat Nigeria 4-1 to clinch WAFU Cup
The Black Stars of Ghana on Sunday defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 4-1 to win the 2017 West African Football Union (WAFU Cup).
Nigeria and Ghana had met earlier in the group stage of the competition with the Eagles beating the Black Stars 2-0.
Ghana has won this year’s West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup.
But host Ghana came smoking hot in the final at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana.
The Black Stars took the lead in the 44th minute of play, with Sarfo Kwadwo taking advantage of a defensive error from the Super Eagles to make it 1-0.
Vincent Atingah doubled their lead from the penalty spot.
Another spot-kick was awarded to Ghana and Stephen Sarfo converted it to make it 3-0.
Atingah was sent off late in the game, but it did nothing to change the final outcome, as the Ghanaians added one more goal in injury time.
A stunning free-kick from Rabiu Ali was merely a consolation for Salisu Yusuf’s men.
