Number of health workers contracting coronavirus increasing in Imo
More health workers have tested positive for coronavirus [COVID-19] in Imo State, Prof Maurice Iwu said on Friday.
Iwu, who is the chairman of committee on COVID-19 in the state, said that the committee he chairs has constituted teams to monitor compliance to the COVID-19 protocols in the state.
Iwu, a former national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission at a weekly news briefing on the covid-19 pandemic in Owerri, decried the increase in the pandemic in the state.
Iwu attributed the increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state to total neglect to safety guidelines by the people of the state.
He warned that security agents had been briefed to ensure compliance from the people and residents of the state.
According to him, the Owerri municipal council was the local government that had recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases followed by Owerri West in the state.
He appealed to residents of the state to maintain physical distancing as well as use face masks at all times.
