Man allegedly poses as military man, runs fake recruitment into Blue Merchant Navy

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, one Akinsiku Sunkanmi,  for allegedly posing as military personnel and running an illegal training camp.

Arrested alongside the man were four persons – Aniedu Essiet, Nwabueze Ijeoma, Raheem Quadric and Gabriel Jacob – who claimed they were been trained as new recruits for Blue Merchant Navy. Exhibits like camouflage headtie, a pair of military uniform, a digger and nine cutlasses, were recovered from them.

The state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, paraded the suspects at headquarters of Osun Police Command in Osogbo on Tuesday.

He said Sunkanmi, who claimed to be personnel of Nigeria Merchant Navy, dressed in military uniform, was apprehended by two personnel of Naval Base, Offa, at Old Garage area of Osogbo, who later handed him over to the police.

The suspects told newsmen that they were taken to a camp in Ifon town in Osun for training by a man, who was said to be at large.

They claimed to have paid the said man sums ranging from N100, 000 to N200, 000 for registration and training for Blue Merchant Navy.

Also paraded were two armed robbery suspects arrested at robbery scene in Osu, Osun State after a shootout with the police.

The two suspects, Chinedu Francis and Emmanuel Okafor, surrendered themselves to the police after hot chase, adding that all the suspects would be arraigned before competent court very soon.
