Blessing in disguise: Lady recounts how mainland estate agent duping her got her a flat in Ikoyi
A Nigerian lady has recounted her disappointing experience with a Lagos estate agent which turned out to be multiple blessings for her.
The lady identified simply as Joy said in 2009 she made a payment of N150,000 for a mini flat apartment in Akowonjo, Egbeda area of Lagos but was swindled by the agent who also gave out the apartment to 24 other prospective tenants.
Disappointed by the incident, Joy in a thread of tweets via her Twitter handle @anafricandiva said the incident made her fall sick.
But in a twist of fate, the firm she works with relocated from Surulere to Ikoyi and two months after her disappointing experience, an elderly friend released a furnished 3-bedroom flat apartment in Ikoyi to her with five months rent already paid.
She said it was when she moved into the apartment that she met her husband.
She tweeted:
“In 2009 I deposited 150k for a mini flat. When I got there to pay balance and collect key, I found out like 24 other people had paid for the same flat and we had all been scammed, including cripple sef. My temperature rose as I was leaving and by evening, full blown malaria.
“That was when I found out “malaria dey all Nigerians body o, e just remain wetin go bring am out.” Haaaay my Lord and my God
“I was trying to get a mini flat around Shasha-Akowonjo not knowing my new company at Surulere was going to move to Ikoyi. Two months after malaria, a senior friend offered me her furnished 3-bedroom flat in Ikoyi rent-free for 5 months. Met my husband in that building“So yes, I was petted and consoled by the Lord.”
