25 soldiers, 40 terrorists dead as ISWAP, military clashes in Borno

No fewer than 25 soldiers and at least 40 jihadists dead have died after fierce clashes between a regional force and IS-affiliated fighters in Borno State.

Quoting two military sources and a militia leader on Thursday, news agency, AFP, said fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) group launched a dawn attack on Monday against a base near the town of Baga on Lake Chad, setting off fierce gun battles that killed 20 Nigerian and five Chadian troops.

WuzupNaija reports that ISWAP recently abducted an aid worker with the Action Against Hunger, Grace Taku, and five others in Damasak, Borno state.

The terrorist had killed a driver before kidnapping six aid workers.

Taku had in a video appealed to the Federal Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the international community to come to their rescue.

She further revealed that Leah Sharibu who has been in ISWAP captivity for over a year has been murdered by the insurgents.
