Years after graduation, man receives N5000 alert from UNN for being best graduating student [Photo]
Over the years there has been outrage over the poor reward for academic excellence in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The social media and conventional media had been awash with reports of ridiculous reward outstanding students of Nigeria public schools get after years of hardwork and dedication.
Many outstanding students go home with ridiculous prizes which is believed to discourage those coming behind from putting in so much effort as there is nothing worth competing for.
Sometimes those who are announced as awardee never get to see the prizes as it only appears on paper.
A Nigerian man identified as Innocentorun Oke recently shared his experience as the best graduating student in his department.
He took to social media on Wednesday to announce that after several of graduating from University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with a first class honour, he had just gotten a credit alert of N5000 from the University for being one of its best graduating students in his set.
He wrote on Facebook:
“I just got the alert of N5000 from University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).lolz”
“A prize given to me as best graduating student with a first class honors in my dept.”
In the comment section, he added:
“Funny…that after how many years…I am just getting it now. They did not not that things have increased in the market. They should have added to it.”
