The Redeemed Christian Church of God has suspended two of its ministers, Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa, following allegations of homosexuality.

The suspension was announced in an internal memo dated October 28, 2024, signed by RCCG National Overseer Pastor Sunday Akande.

In the memo, Pastor Akande informed the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration of the decision to temporarily relieve AdeBello and Mayowa from their duties while the church investigates the allegations.

“Our mission is deeply rooted in the teachings of the Bible, and we must address these allegations with the seriousness they deserve,” Akande stated.

RCCG’s stance on homosexuality is anchored in specific biblical passages, such as Leviticus 18:22, which describes same-sex relations as an “abomination,” and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, warning that “the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Akande reiterated, “For RCCG, adhering to these principles is seen as a core part of its mission.”

Pastor Akande directed the Special Assistant to conduct a thorough and confidential inquiry into the matter, requesting that the investigation be concluded within two weeks.

During this period, AdeBello, Mayowa, and any others potentially involved were instructed to refrain from participating in church activities.

Akande emphasized that the suspension is a precautionary measure, stating, “This is a matter of integrity and adherence to our values.”

This development comes as RCCG, one of Nigeria’s largest Christian organizations, has previously addressed doctrinal issues it sees as counter to its values, maintaining strict adherence to its interpretation of biblical teachings.
