1,566 Ogun schools participate in Governor’s Cup
At least 1,566 primary schools across the across Ogun State are taking part in the 2021 Governor’s Cup Competition which kicked off on Tuesday.
Chairman of Ogun state Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi stated that this year’s edition which would last for 10 days aims to promote the spirit of sportsmanship amongst the pupils.
The PUNCH reports that the tournament involves only public primary schools in the state made a presentation of jerseys to the 20 local government areas of the state.
According to the Chairman, the tournament will feature athletic events such as 100 metres; 200 meters; relay race for female only while football competition will be for male only.
Speaking on the incentives for the participants, Majekodunmi said the State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved funds for the competition.
“Prince Dapo Abiodun is a sport-loving governor, hence, his approval for the second edition of governor’s cup to begin.
“The primaries, quarter-final and semi-final with third place will be held in the chosen stadia across the state while final match will take place at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, on Thursday, July 29.”
