10-man Chelsea edge Brighton in five-goal thriller

Published

Chelsea secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Brighton in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Despite playing the entire second half with 10 men after Conor Gallagher’s red card, the Blues managed to hold on for the win thanks to goals from Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill.

Chelsea took an early lead in the 17th minute when Fernandez headed home from close range after Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross. Colwill doubled the Blues’ advantage just four minutes later with another close-range header following a corner.

Brighton pulled a goal back just before half-time through a stunning strike from Facundo Buonanotte. The Argentinean curled the ball into the far corner with his left foot after being set up by Simon Adingra and Adam Lallana.

Chelsea were dealt a blow just before the break when Gallagher was sent off for a second yellow card.

However, the Blues responded well and Fernandez converted a penalty midway through the second half to restore their two-goal lead.

Joao Pedro gave Brighton a late scare when he headed home in added-time, but Chelsea managed to hold on for the win.

The victory moves Chelsea up to 10th in the Premier League table, while Brighton remains in ninth position.
