Paris Olympics: Amusan named as Nigeria’s flag bearer

World record holder Tobi Amusan has been selected to carry Nigeria’s flag at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This is a historic moment for Nigerian athletics as Amusan is the first track and field athlete in 20 years to receive this honour.

A tweet by Making of Champions on Tuesday read, “Tobi Amusan has been named as Nigeria’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of #Paris2024 #Olympics – she becomes the first athlete from Athletics in 20yrs, since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games, to have such honours.”

Amusan, who is celebrated for her achievements in the 100m hurdles, will lead the Nigerian team during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony.

This recognition highlights her remarkable achievements and her prominent role in Nigerian athletics on the global stage.

The Nigerian Olympic Committee also announced another key appointment. “In another appointment, the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) also announced Badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori as the General Team captain for Nigeria in Paris,” the tweet added.
