Anthony Joshua reacts after victory over Otto Wallin

Published

Anthony Joshua secured his third victory of 2023 with a TKO triumph over Otto Wallin during the “Day of Reckoning” card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This followed wins against Jermaine Franklin in April and a seventh-round knockout of Robert Helenius in August. Despite Wallin’s reputation as a formidable opponent, Joshua dominated with a fifth-round technical knockout.

Wallin, known for his tough southpaw stance, suffered his only prior defeat against Tyson Fury in 2019.

Fury won by unanimous decision, highlighting Wallin’s resilience. With this win, Joshua now boasts an impressive record of 27 victories, three losses, and 24 knockout wins.

Joey Garnache, Wallin’s coach, opted to stop the fight to prevent further punishment for his fighter.

Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, declared his comeback to former rival Andy Ruiz post-fight, expressing his aspiration to become a three-time world heavyweight boxing champion.

In a post-fight interview, Joshua emphasized his focus on the journey and achieving the title, refraining from celebrations until then.

“One step at a time, every fight leads to the final destination. Keep on praying, working hard. I’m on a journey, stay focused, let’s see how far I can take it.

“I respect Otto, I know what he brings to the table, not a throwback, no, another day at the office,” he said.

In another noteworthy match, Joseph Parker secured a unanimous point decision win over former champion Deontay Wilder.

Parker’s complete control was evident, with judges scoring the bout 118-111, 118-110, and 120-108. After the win, Parker attributed his success to “God’s plan.”
