Zamfara bans officials from radio, TV interviews

The government of Zamfara State has issued a ban preventing all political office holders and heads of agencies from granting interviews, making statements, or airing programs on radio, television, or social media platforms without prior authorization.

According to the Commissioner of Information, Mannir Haidara, the Ministry of Information is dedicated to overseeing and monitoring all radio stations to ensure compliance with this directive.

Haidara emphasized the need for individuals and groups to follow the proper channels before conducting interviews or airing programs on government policies and programs. He stated, “The Zamfara state government has observed with dismay the attitudes of some individuals, political groups and heads of MDAs towards conducting radio, television stations and social media platforms interviews and programmes on state government’s policies and programmes without following the right channels.”

The statement further outlined the government’s stance, stating, “In an effort to checkmate the unwanted behaviour, the Zamfara state Ministry of Information and Culture hereby announce that henceforth no political office holder, group or head of any agencies is allowed to conduct any interview, issue statement or air a programme on radio, television stations or social media without seeking a permission from the authority.”

Additionally, media organizations operating within the state were warned against broadcasting any radio or television programs related to government policies without approval from the relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Information and Culture affirmed its commitment to ensuring that all information disseminated to the public regarding government policies is accurate and properly conveyed. The statement concluded with an assurance of strict monitoring to enforce compliance with the directive.
